Student welcome
Welcome — here's how your sessions work
Everything below takes two minutes to read and will make your first session considerably more useful. Nothing here is compulsory; it simply helps your tutor spend the hour on you rather than on getting their bearings.
Step 01
What a first session actually involves
Your first session is not a syllabus walkthrough. Your tutor's job in that first hour is to find the real gap — the specific thing between you and a pass — rather than re-teaching material you already know.
That usually means working through a question or a topic you find awkward, out loud, so your tutor can see how you approach it. Very often the blocker turns out to be exam technique, time pressure or how a requirement is being read, rather than the technical content itself.
Step 02
How to prepare beforehand
The single most useful thing you can do is fill in Brief Your Tutor, which appears on each upcoming session on your sessions page. It asks what you want help with, your goal for the hour, the topics involved, and where you're struggling.
It only takes a minute, and your tutor reads it before you meet — so the session starts at the useful part. Have any question, past paper or notes you want to look at open and ready.
Step 03
How to join
For online and hybrid sessions, a gold Join Your Provenway ACCA Session button appears next to the session on your sessions page, in your confirmation email, and on the calendar invite. Tap it at the start time and you're in — nothing to install or set up.
Join a couple of minutes early so any camera or microphone prompt is out of the way before the hour begins.
Step 04
What happens afterwards
Your tutor marks the session as complete afterwards, and will sometimes leave a short next step note — a specific thing to practise before you meet again. It appears with that session on your sessions page.
You can also leave optional feedback on a completed session. It goes to your tutor and the Provenway team only, is never published anywhere, and is genuinely used to make the next session better.
Step 05
If you need to change or cancel
Plans change. You can cancel a session from your sessions page, and the refund rules are set out in full in our cancellation policy.
